Summer School

Monkey had an unexpected treat this summer - school. A day before school let out for the summer I got a call from his kindergarten teacher and the school Principal asking if we would be willing to let Monkey take a placement in the Discovering New Success in Learning Program. They had two placements that needed to be filled as the children who needed these placements refused and they did not want the placements to go to waste. It is at no cost to us and Monkey is gone Monday thru Thursday. Three days of the week he has school for 3 hours and one day he goes for 5.

Week one went well. He catches a bus from his elementary school over to another school that is air conditioned. The bus was a cool factor to my six year old. On his long day his class went on a field trip to a metropark for a nature walk. Week two will find them going on a field trip the Cranbrook Institute. I've never been there so I'm not sure what this trip will teach them. Week three will find them at Domino Farms which was once owned by the family who started Domino's Pizza. Week four brings them to the highlight of the summer. Ann Arbor Hands On Museum. This is a children's museum. I took Monkey there once when he was about 16 months old and was very disappointed in the museum but it could have changed in the past 4 1/2 years. I'm sure Monkey will love it.

He will then have another week and a half off without any school before he starts school again and he will be in the first grade. I asked my husband since Monkey is no longer in kindergarten but hasn't started first grade what grade is he in summer school. He decided Monkey is doing his graduate studies. Of course Monkey thought that was great. He now thinks he is highly important. Teddy goes to school to except for the field trips as we don't want him to get lost. Why Monkey needs his Teddy bear is anybody's guess but if it helps and the teachers don't mind I don't mind. Just don't tell Daddy.
