November

Wow! 2017 is flying by and I don't know where the time has gone. Tomorrow will mark 35 months since my husband died. Hard to believe that next month will be 3 years and my son and I have only been in grief counseling for a little over a year. My son wanted to give it up but I told him I wasn't ready yet and even though he talks a good game neither is he.

Nick started middle school this year and even though it only started the day after Labor Day he has already missed 14 days of school. The majority of the days have been covered with doctors notes even though he has been sick every day he has been home but some days I didn't take him to the doctors. It is frustrating because the family doctor refuses to see him because she doesn't want to waste her time with his illness when all he is sick with vomiting and diarrhea. I am on my 4th urgent care but I found one that cares and is trying to figure out what is wrong with him. The only drawback here is that they can't write me a referral and they can't do some of the tests but what they can do it ask lots of questions including my late husbands' medical history for which our family doctor has no interest in and they can run drug trails to see what will work and what won't work and go from there. Right now we are keeping a food journal and he has two medications. One mediation he takes every morning before he eats anything. That one pill lasts 24 hours. Then the second medication is for any diarrhea he might get. He can take it up to three times a day. So far he has only had to take once a day for a few days. We haven't found a rhyme or reason to why he is getting sick. He can eat the same thing three days in a row and days one and three he will be OK but on day two he was sick.

In the midst of all this, I keep getting sick. Right now I am on my second course of antibiotics and instead of getting a different kind of steroids I was put on an inhaler. If this course of antibiotics doesn't work they will try some stronger ones then put me on the stronger steroids. Yippee! Just what I want to be doing.

I did, however, have some fun. On the weekend before Halloween that Friday night I took grandchild# 6, Pooter to the movies with Nick and I. We went to see the My Little Pony movie she wanted to see. She had so much fun. Nick not so much but as long as he had his candy and popcorn he was good. Then the next day we took her brother who is grandchild# 9 Booman to see the Lego Ninjago movie. Now Nick loves all the Ninjago TV shows but he kept telling me he didn't want to see the movie. Well within 5 minutes he told me that as soon as the movie comes out on DVD/BluRay that I am buying it for him. Kids! Booman gets really loud at one point so I look over to see what he needs and he lifts up his hand (he is 3) and gives me a thumbs up. So I gave him one back and he goes back to watching the movie. He tells me afterward it was better than Cars 3 (I took him to see that over the summer). The next day I take Nick to a pumpkin farm for his treat. Even though I was sick I went with him through the corn maze and fell on my ass and back (it was muddy and we had to climb a hay bale), went on a hayride and I bought him a package of overpriced donuts but we enjoyed ourselves in the cold weather.
